Cleaning Up

The other day after coming back from a weekend with my relatives at my cousin's place in Frankston, I came back quite tired. As I was lying around on the couch, I planned in my head the duration of my nap and whether or not I should shower first so I could nap better or shower later so I would feel refreshed after the nap. Then I got up and knocked on Yao Yun's room, "Can I take the vacuum please; I feel like vacuuming today." Mind you, we haven't had an actual 'cleaning day' since Easter Camp, which was about two months ago (but we occasionally clean the toilet okay).

So I vacuumed the living area, my room and study area, the kitchen and toilet floor. Yeah, we vacuum the toilet floor because there is no drainage outlet for the outflow of water if we were to wet the floor. The first two times cleaning the toilet was very troublesome. We used to constantly wonder how the locals clean their toilets. Figure that.

After vacuuming, I thought of what else I could do whilst still in the mood to clean. So I proceeded to nicely tidy up the kitchen counter and the area around the cooktop, gave the toilet a little scrub, and rearranged the stuff in the storage compartments so there would be more easily accessible space to keep more of the things we buy and also to allow easy access to the important cooking stuff.

It was a very satisfying and fulfilling feeling when I was done because it'd been tugging at me for so long, and the carpet was getting dirtier. Good job, Chris! I rewarded myself with a long, warm shower - I have to cut down on that, water is expensive lah.

Similarly in our walks with God, there are some issues we've put on hold or continuously postponed, telling ourselves (and God) that we'll get to it.. eventually. Maybe it's time we stopped thinking it, got up, knocked on the door and said, "Okay, it's time to clean up". Maybe it's time to identify the things that're taking up unnecessary space and make way for the important ones. Better late than never. Better sooner than later. Because when we're done, or rather God's done with us, we will look around and see that all things, God works for the good of those who love Him. Of course, good for those who love Him ultimately equate to good for Him.

Woah Christina!

That was a very good illustration. I mean, real life example. Hahaha.

Let's continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in us to will and to act according to His good purpose! (Phil 2:12-13)
