People. People-watching is something I like to do - call it a guilty pleasure. Sitting outside a cafe, looking at the people who walk past, what they wear, who they're with, is the other thing I do when I'm out and not shopping. But things become much more interesting when I'm sitting in some place with people I know - like church. Haha, creepy. Anyway, that's not the point.
People. More importantly, ordinary people with a passion.
When someone genuinely speaks about something they're passionate about, it pierces through to you, or to me at least. It leaves an impression, and I remember things that they say - especially when I personally know them. They inspire me to speak up and not be ashamed about what I'm passionate about.
Someone who's passionate about music puts their heart into practicing, writing songs, singing, and it translates when they perform. When someone sings a song they wrote during worship, there's a special ring to it that communicates the message to the audience (or just me). They inspire me to express myself through music - to sing better, harmonize more, practice more and play more songs, and to select a favourite song haha.
A writer can take their thoughts and put it into writing - and that's uber cool because I don't have that talent.
Friends who take time off their schedules to call and ask how're you, or ask me out for coffee to catch up, or offer to pray for me without me asking, etc. They inspire me to be a better friend/sister.
When my brother suddenly becomes extra nice to me during the time I'm back in Malaysia, it tells me that he missed me when I was away (or perasan). He takes time off to hang out with me, he unplugs the modem because he knows I want to go online, he directly asks me to 'come and talk' with him at night, he picks which earrings and shoes to go with my outfit, etc. He definitely inspires me to be a better sister.
Lastly, my mom. Wah, I cannot describe. I have to be a better daughter!
I don't want to forget Jesus in all this talk about passion. I always pray for a greater passion for things. But Victor mentioned this:
God can't give you passion; that's for you to give God.
Ditto.
